Ohio State ECE Program Jumps to 22 in 2021 U.S. News and World Report Rankings
Statistics show the Ohio State Electrical Engineering program went up from 30th to 22nd among national public and private universities.
“In moving up eight spots, electrical engineering experienced the biggest improvement,” the Ohio State College of Engineering reported after the results were announced Tuesday.
ECE Department Chair Hesham El Gamal said the improvement is a testament to the “excellence, talent and hard work,” of department faculty and staff over the past year.
“The good news came at just the right time,” he said.
Like the majority of Ohio State colleges, engineering faculty, staff and students are now working remotely from home as a result of the COVID-19 virus quarantine in effect.
To compile the U.S. News rankings of graduate programs, 214 engineering schools granting doctoral degrees were surveyed. While overall engineering graduate school rankings are derived from a combination of 10 quantitative and qualitative indicators, the publication’s engineering specialty rankings are based solely on peer assessments by department heads in each area. Assessment surveys and statistical data were collected in fall 2019 and early 2020.
