Dr. Rob Lee named Department Chair
Lee’s research interests are in the development and application of finite element and finite difference methods for electromagnetic applications, and he has been involved in the development of efficient finite element techniques for modeling electrically large problems, resulting in the implementation of finite methods on massively parallel multiprocessors. He has applied his methods to electromagnetic scattering from a variety of objects (jet engines, sea ice, plastic mines), radiation from various types of antennas (wire, microstrip, arrays, horns), RF coils for high-field magnetic resonance imaging and electron paramagnetic resonance imaging, wave propagation through complex materials, light propagation in tissue, and high speed circuits. He has published more than 70 journal papers on his research.
Lee joined Ohio State University in 1990, where he is currently a professor and graduate studies chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1983 from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA and his MSEE and Ph.D. in 1988 and 1990, respectively, from the University of Arizona, in Tucson. He has worked for Microwave Semiconductor Corporation as a microwave engineer and on the technical staff for Hughes Aircraft Company. Lee received the URSI Young Scientist Award in 1996.
