Activate your username and email address

It is very important that you activate your Ohio State email account as soon as possible, before your arrival. This is the email address the university and the ECE department will use to contact you for official university business. Please check your Ohio State email regularly at buckeyemail.osu.edu so you don’t miss important information this summer, or throughout your academic career at Ohio State.

If you know your Ohio State ID number and password, you can activate your Ohio State account (lastname.#) and Ohio State email address (last name.#@osu.edu) at my.osu.edu. The password should have been emailed to you by the admissions office. Your Ohio State ID Number can be found in the top portion of your official acceptance letter. Please read the Policy on Responsible Use of University Computing Resources, then click on "Activate Now."

Once activated, you may check your email account by visiting buckeyemail.osu.edu and signing in to BuckeyeMail using your lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu and password.

If you have trouble activating your account, please contact the Office of the Chief Information Officer by emailing 8help@osu.edu or by telephone at 614-688-4357.

Set up BuckeyePass

BuckeyePass is a multifactor authentication service provided by the Ohio State University which is required when accessing your different Ohio State accounts. It helps to protect your account even if your password is stolen. The easiest way to set up BuckeyePass is to download the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device.

International students: You must have BuckeyePass set up on a device that you will have with you during immigration check-in. You won't be able to complete the process without BuckeyePass.

View instructions on how to set up BuckeyePass and download Duo Mobile.

Visa reminder for international students

Students who are not U.S. citizens are required to obtain a visa to study in the U.S. It is important to apply for a visa as soon as you can. Depending on your home country, this process may take several months. As soon as you have your I-20 information from Ohio State, you can start the visa application process. If you have any questions regarding your I-20 or other related questions, please contact the Ohio State University Office of International Affairs.

Who is your advisor?

Great question!

For Master's students:

  • A faculty advisor will be assigned to you in early August.
  • You will receive an email in August with your advisor's name.

For PhD students:

  • For PhD students, your faculty advisor is the faculty member who extended a financial aid offer to you, or who has agreed to advise your PhD studies.
  • If you do not have a faculty advisor, plan to actively seek out a faculty advisor by the end of the second semester of enrollment in the ECE PhD graduate program.
