Common Ground is a newsletter for incoming graduate students to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. We know you have a lot to do to as you prepare for graduate school. Common Ground will walk you through the tasks to complete before you begin your graduate career at the Ohio State University. We will continue to send you additional issues of Common Ground, so look for important and useful information in each issue.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
It is very important that you activate your Ohio State email account as soon as possible, before your arrival. This is the email address the university and the ECE department will use to contact you for official university business. Please check your Ohio State email regularly at buckeyemail.osu.edu so you don’t miss important information this summer, or throughout your academic career at Ohio State.
If you know your Ohio State ID number and password, you can activate your Ohio State account (lastname.#) and Ohio State email address (last email@example.com) at my.osu.edu. The password should have been emailed to you by the admissions office. Your Ohio State ID Number can be found in the top portion of your official acceptance letter. Please read the Policy on Responsible Use of University Computing Resources, then click on "Activate Now."
Once activated, you may check your email account by visiting buckeyemail.osu.edu and signing in to BuckeyeMail using your firstname.lastname@example.org and password.
If you have trouble activating your account, please contact the Office of the Chief Information Officer by emailing email@example.com or by telephone at 614-688-4357.
Set up BuckeyePass
BuckeyePass is a multifactor authentication service provided by the Ohio State University which is required when accessing your different Ohio State accounts. It helps to protect your account even if your password is stolen. The easiest way to set up BuckeyePass is to download the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device.
International students: You must have BuckeyePass set up on a device that you will have with you during immigration check-in. You won't be able to complete the process without BuckeyePass.
If you are receiving this newsletter, you have been recommended for admission to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Program, but that’s only the beginning. Your next step is to officially accept your admission at http://appstatus.osu.edu/. After logging in, you should see the option to accept your admission by clicking the link, "Accept/Decline" on the main page.
It is important that you accept your admission online because this will allow you to register for classes.
If you have trouble accepting your admission, please contact Ohio State Graduate and Professional Admissions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
