He is a central Ohio native, born in Columbus and raised in Delaware County.  He received his BS in Biomedical Engineering (1983) and an MS in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics (1996) from Case Western Reserve University.

He has worked in Surgical Research (St. Luke's Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio), Functional Electrical Stimulation (Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Metro General Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio), and Measurement Systems Development (Caterpillar Inc, Peoria, Ill.).

From 2001-2009, he was Manager of Instrument Development Programs for Neoprobe Corporation (Dublin, Ohio), a company originally co-founded by the late Dr. Marlin O.
