EE/ECE alumnus John C. Procario earned his BSEE in 1973 and his MSEE degree in 1974 at The Ohio State University. His main study focus was in Electric Power Systems.

Prior to his retirement in 2015, Procario was the Chairman, President, and CEO of American Transmission Company. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Regulated Businesses - Cinergy Corp; and held various executive, management, and engineering positions at Cinergy Corp and Cincinnati Gas & Electric. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor, Electrical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati.

Procario's distinguished career highlights his work on the Edison Electric Institute Board of Directors, North American Electric Reliability Council Electric Sector Coordinating Committee, the Keystone Energy Board, and the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies Board of Directors. He has served on other industry organizations including the North American Energy Standards Board and the Electric Power Research Institute. He is also past Chair of the Cincinnati Section of the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers.

In the late 1990s, Procario was the Chairman of the Midwest ISO Management Council, which established the independent regional transmission organization (RTO) now called the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). MISO manages the electric energy market and oversees the reliability of the bulk electric system in 15 states and one Canadian Province. He was also the first chair of the MISO Advisory Committee and MISO Transmission Owners Committee.

Procario also developed and taught a series of electric power systems courses as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati. He taught for 34 years and has been active on the UC College of Engineering advisory committee as a member and past chair.
