Ohio State University professor Hesham M El Gamal was recently confirmed as a 2016 Highly-Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters.

El Gamal is a professor in electrical and computer engineering at Ohio State, specializing in Information Theory, Coding Theory, Wireless Communication, and DNA Self Assembly.

This is the third year in a row El Gamal has made the list of Highly-Cited Researchers. Making the list is an achievement that includes him amongst a short roster of just 10 scientists at Ohio State and approximately 3000 worldwide.

According to the Ohio State Office of Research, inclusion in the list "is considered a measure of the worldwide impact and influence of an individual’s research."

Highly Cited Researchers is a list issued annually by the Intellectual Property  and Science business of Thomson Reuters, recognizing leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences from around the world.

The 2016 list focuses on contemporary research achievements. Highly Cited Papers are defined as those that rank in the top 1 percent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science.
