The Antenna Measurement Techniques Association awarded its highest honor to Ohio State Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) faculty member Dr. Chi-Chih Chen.

A Research Associate Professor at ECE, and co-founder of Nikola Labs, Chen is known internationally for his work in antenna design.

"Throughout his career (Chen) has exemplified and promoted the goals and objectives of the AMTA," the organization reported.

The award specifically honors Chen for:

• His design and development of many novel antennas, including dielectric rod ground penetrating radar (GPR) antennas, ultra-wideband (UWB) dual polarized tapered chamber feeds, GPS/GNSS antennas, wearable antennas, phase array antennas, low-profile antennas, and UWB permittivity probes.

• His ground breaking work on detection and discrimination methods for fully polarmetric ultra-wide-band ground penetration radar technology.

• Fostering the technical growth of the next generation of engineers and scientists in the area of EM measurements.

• His many ongoing years of AMTA support.

• His outstanding and pioneering contributions to the development, practice and commercialization of novel antenna and radar technologies.

AMTA is the international organization dedicated to development, application, and dissemination of advanced antenna, radar signature, and related measurement technologies. It was formed in 1979, and incorporated in the state of Georgia, USA on March 10, 1989 as a non-profit professional organization open to individuals with an interest in antenna measurements.

Areas of interest include:

- Measurement facilities
- Unique or innovative measurement techniques
- Test instrumentation and systems
- Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements
- Compact range design and evaluation
- Near-field techniques and their applications
- Practical aspects of measurement problems and their solutions
- Members come from a variety of backgrounds including industry, government, and educational institutions, and from many countries around the world. Membership has steadily grown from 30 in 1979 to about 500 members today.
