Electrical and Computer Engineering Associate Professor Joanne DeGroat is now appointed to the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission.

Selected by the ABET Engineering Area Delegation, DeGroat is set to join the commission for its 2016-2017 term. Her responsibilities will include attendance at the 2016 and 2017 July Commission meetings and serving as team chair for one or two visits throughout the year. DeGroat also helps with ABET website updates.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The organization accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor, and master degree levels.

An ABET accreditation is essentially the stamp of approval for students, employers, and the society at large, to know that a program meets the quality standards to produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.

The organization has four working accreditation commissions, ranging in focus from Applied Science and Computing, to Engineering and Engineering Technology. The commissions are responsible for reviewing educational programs and making the final accreditation decision for each.

At ECE, DeGroat specializes in VLSI computer architecture, computer-aided design, formal verification, hardware description languages and high performance functional units.
