Elias Alwan wins best paper at Wireless Innovation Forum

Elias Alwan, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering, won a best paper award at the 2013 Wireless Innovation Forum on Wireless Communications Technologies and Software Defined Radio held in Washington, DC in January 2013. A panel of judges selected only three papers for the honor.

Alwan’s paper, “Ultra-wideband Digital Beamformer with Significant SWAP-C Reduction” is co-authored by S. Balasubramanian, J.G. Atallah, M. Larue, W. Khalil, K. Sertel and J. L. Volakis.

Alwan is a graduate research associate with the ElectroScience Laboratory since 2009 and is advised by Prof. John L. Volakis. He is also co-advised by Prof. Waleed Khalil. His current research interests include electromagnetic theory, ultra wideband antenna design, and RF systems. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame University of Lebanon in 2007 and a master’s, both in electrical engineering, from the American University of Beirut in 2009.
