Dr. Jianhui Wang, Southern Methodist University, will present the seminar, "Grid Modernization: Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions," Wednesday, Aug. 28 in Dreese Labs Room 260 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Abstract:

Our aging grid infrastructure faces increasing challenges from multiple sources, including greater demand variability, stricter environmental regulations and growing cyber security concerns. Advanced smart grid technologies provide possible solutions to tackle these challenges. In addition, how best to utilize these new devices and technologies, such as PMUs and electric vehicles remains a challenge. This talk addresses demand response, stochastic optimization for renewable integration, microgrids and grid resilience.
