Teixeira, Fernando

Biography

Fernando L. Teixeira is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and faculty member of the ElectroScience Laboratory at The Ohio State University (OSU).

Dr. Teixeira received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999 and served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology during 1999-2000, prior to joining OSU in 2000.

Dr. Teixeira has published over 200 journal papers, over 200 conference publications, and several US patents on topics related to his areas of research. He has served as the main advisor for 20+ PhD graduates. His research has been sponsored by NASA, Department of Energy (NETL, Office of Science), Department of Defense (AFRL, AFOSR, Army, DARPA, DTRA, MDA, Navy), National Science Foundation including a NSF CAREER award, and various industrial organizations.  He is coauthor of the books Radiowave Propagation: Physics and Applications (Wiley, 2010) and Tropospheric and Ionospheric Effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (Wiley-IEEE Press, 2022). Dr. Teixeira is an IEEE Fellow and elected member of Commissions B and F the International Union of Radio Science (URSI).

 
 

Expertise

His research interests and expertise are in the broad area of electromagnetics and optics. His present activities include research on computational electromagnetics, industrial tomography, electromagnetic sensing/imaging, geoelectromagnetics, and metamaterials. Examples of recent research activities are:

  • Adaptive electrical capacitance volume tomography for real-time industrial process monitoring.

  • Hierarchical model-order reduction of electromagnetic interaction models.

  • Compatible discretizations for kinetic plasma simulations.

  • Wavelet-based adaptive antenna systems.

  • Electromagnetic coupling analysis.

  • Subsurface electromagnetic imaging. 

  • Dispersion-engineered and plasmonic metamaterials.
