Sriram Krishnamoorthy, a PhD student in electrical and computer engineering, was awarded a 2013 Presidential Fellowship, the most competitive and prestigious scholarly recognition provided by The Ohio State University Graduate School.

The Presidential Fellowship recognizes outstanding scholarship and research ability and provides recipients with the opportunity to devote themselves to their dissertation research full time.

As a member of Professor Siddharth Rajan’s research group, Krishnamoorthy is working on molecular beam epitaxy growth, fabrication and characterization of III-Nitride heterostructure devices. His specific focus is on the investigation of tunneling in III-Nitride heterostructures for a variety of optoelectronic and electronic applications, such as increasing the efficiency of commercial high-brightness light emitting diodes (LED). Results of Krishnamoorthy’s research demonstrating high tunneling current density in nitrides was recently featured in Semiconductor Today magazine and published in Applied Physics Letters. His research was also covered in Semiconductor Today in 2010.

A native of Chennai, India, Krishnamoorthy received a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering, and an integrated master’s degree in physics at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India in 2009. After graduate school he plans to pursue a career in academic research.
